Inspirational Poem:- Are You Proud to be a Sikh?

We are proud to be Sikhs
So do many speak
--But only of the past
And not these present weeks.

I pity the Khalsa Panth
Which gave up its life for Guru Granth
Who sacrificed their heads instead of their hair
Attaining martyrdom with least worldly care.

Oh! The love for our Guru was so great then
That we were recognized as the purest of men,
But now that our love for Him is fading away
Our Panth is undergoing deep decay.

The problem is we still doubt our Guru
Despite being perfect--and this is quite true.
We get influenced by others' personal philosophies
And the purest knowledge, we thus oversee.

Why, why is this taking place?
Why are we in this disgrace?
Do you have any care at all,
If you are a Sikh from your heart and soul?

A true Sikh is purest in form and feature
He is the embodiment of simple Nature
So please do not practise apostacy
And call yourself a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh Ji!

If our faith is modern then why not our form?
Because,if your mind is pure,so will be your body's interests
Now,don't make this mistake of following your own norm
And later blame being influenced by the West.

Reflection: I don't in any way mean to offend anybody.I wrote this poem to remind us that we should all realize the present crisis of our faith now and not be carried away by its glorious past.We should be inspired by our past and deal with the present declination of our faith often people tell these excuses of blaming the West, I hope this poem gives the reply to all those who seek it.

Kirtan Saaj- Sarangi

The Sarangi is a remarkably enchanting instrument which dates back to 5000BC, it was created by the great scholar, Raavan. The name of the instrument translates to mean 'one hundred colors', it is also known as the mother to all stringed instruments as well as the only instrument which is so close to the human voice. This astonishing instrument was created to sing the praise of the Creator, it was used for this purpose and then with evolution it was used less. In the court of the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib it was brought back to the spiritual arena and used to sing the 22 ballads (Vaars) from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. There is a huge difference between a Dhadd Sarangi or Tota which is used to sing Dhadi Vaars and this sarangi which is also known as a classical or full size sarangi, the purpose and sound of these two instruments separates them clearly.

KIrtan Saaj- Rabab

The Rabab of Guru Nanak followed him as his shadow for over 27 years on his travels around the world, played by his beloved companion Bhai Mardana. This was the start of the Sikh Rababi (kirtanee) tradition with the singing of Shabad pardhaan kirtan according to the hukam of the Guru's (following the specified raags). India houses various types of rababs which vary from region to region, the Sikh Rabab is also known as the Firandia Rabab, named after Bhai Firanda who carved and created the original Rabab which Bebe Nanaki presented to Guru Nanak Dev ji as a gift.
